Indiana Bar Foundation Launches Mock Election Program for Schools Statewide
The Indiana Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the Indiana Kids Election (IKE) to teach students about voting by participating in a mock election process. Beginning today, Indiana teachers can register their class to participate in the comprehensive program designed to help students understand the critical role of voting in our democracy.
“As a leading advocate for improving civic education, we look forward to partnering with teachers and school districts across the state ahead of the election in November,” said Charles Dunlap, President & CEO of the Indiana Bar Foundation. “By engaging students in the voting process at a young age, we hope to inspire them to build a habit of voting into adulthood.”
Following a successful initial pilot of the Indiana Kids Election in 2022, which 22 schools registered for, the Foundation is expanding the availability of the program to all school districts in the state. The program meets the state’s requirements for civic education in classrooms.
The Indiana Bar Foundation will provide unique lesson plans, created by Indiana teachers, for teaching elections in the classroom as well as an online voting simulation platform for teachers who register. The mock election’s 2024 ballot will include presidential candidates as well as Indiana candidates for governor, senate and attorney general.
As a nonprofit organization, the Foundation was awarded a grant from Eli Lilly and Company Foundation to fund the Indiana Kids Election. For more information on registering for IKE, please visit https://www.inbarfoundation.org/indiana-kids-election/.
