The Indiana Bar Foundation & iCivics proudly hosted the 2026 Indiana Civics Summit & Educator Convening, a dynamic, high-energy gathering focused on strengthening civic knowledge, engagement, and collaboration across the state. This year’s event marked a significant evolution—bringing together attendees from around the country, an unprecedented number of exhibitors, and, for the first time, a dedicated educator track designed to deepen classroom impact.

In partnership with iCivics, the event created a shared space for educators, community leaders, students, and civic-minded professionals to connect, learn, and take action. This collaboration elevated the event in both scope and impact, reinforcing a shared commitment to ensuring that all Hoosiers are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to participate in our democracy.

The day began with opening remarks emphasizing the importance of collective effort in civic education, followed by a compelling discussion of the 2025 Indiana Civic Health Index. Attendees heard directly from leading scholars and practitioners about the data shaping civic life in Indiana, setting the tone for a day grounded in both insight and action.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in a variety of breakout sessions and panel discussions. Topics ranged from the foundations of American democracy to navigating civic education in a divided time, as well as innovative approaches to media literacy, AI in the classroom, and student engagement. The introduction of the educator track provided teachers with a deeper, more intentional experience, offering practical tools and strategies to bring civics to life in their classrooms.

A highlight of the afternoon was the “Young Voices, Big Impact” panel, where student leaders shared their perspectives on civic engagement and demonstrated the powerful role young people play in shaping our future. The day concluded with facilitated reflections, allowing attendees to process their learning and identify ways to apply new ideas within their own communities.

Beyond the sessions, the event featured a record-breaking number of exhibitors, offering attendees valuable resources, tools, and opportunities to further their civic work. The exhibit space became a hub of connection and collaboration throughout the day.

From start to finish, the energy in the room reflected a shared passion for civics and a commitment to strengthening communities across Indiana. With strong attendance, meaningful dialogue, and new opportunities for educators, this year’s Summit set a new standard for what civic engagement events can achieve.

We are grateful for our partnership with iCivics, our sponsors, speakers, exhibitors, and every attendee who made the day such a success.
