Hamilton Southeastern High School, Fishers, won today’s Indiana Bar Foundation High School We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution state championship.

Plainfield High School finished second, and Fishers High School finished third in the annual competition held at the Historic Crowne Plaza Union Station Downtown.

“Congratulations to our state champions and to every student who took part in this year’s finals. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment these young scholars have shown,” said President & CEO Charles Dunlap. “We extend our sincere appreciation to the teachers, administrators, families, school communities, and volunteer judges whose dedication brings this program to life. Because of their support—and the continued generosity of our partners—the Foundation is able to provide the transformative We the People experience to thousands of Indiana students each year.”

The We the People competition consists of simulated legislative hearings. Students demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of constitutional principles by presenting their views on a specific topic and then defending their positions by answering questions from a panel of judges.

Both the state champion and state runner-up will now have the opportunity to represent the Hoosier State at the We the People National Finals, April 17-19 in Washington, D.C.
