Fishers Junior High School won today’s Indiana Bar Foundation Middle School We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution state championship.
Castle South Middle School finished second, and Fall Creek Junior High finished third in the annual competition held at the Historic Crowne Plaza Union Station Downtown.
“Congratulations to our state champions and to the hundreds of students who showcased their knowledge and passion in today’s finals,” said President & CEO Charles Dunlap. “We are profoundly appreciative of the teachers, administrators, families, school communities, and volunteer judges whose commitment makes this program thrive. Through their dedication and the continued support of our partners, the Foundation is honored to deliver the impactful We the People program to thousands of Indiana students each year.”
The Foundation administers the We the People program for Indiana.
The We the People competition consists of simulated legislative hearings. Students demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of constitutional principles by presenting their views on a specific topic and then defending their positions by answering questions from a panel of judges.
The state champion will now have the opportunity to represent the Hoosier State at the We the People National Invitational, taking place May 15-16.
